Looking at my husband's blog I thought that I need to update my blog. Since four years I didn't write anything here. The period from 2020 till today was full of events. Among them were very sad but also beautiful ones. How to cover up those 4 years for the readers? Loosing a mother is sad. It takes years to overcome the pain but the missing remains. Not a day goes by that I don't think about her. But in my case sadness turns into creativity and "Vṛkṣa - The Tree 2021" at Lalish Theater was a real premiere. After the first lockdown and in between other lockdowns due to the Covid19 pandemic we had finally a public performance with real audience.
The following year was busy with "Vienna Margam" which was performed at Theater am Petersplatz. In "Vienna Margam - the Viennese Way" the classical dance repertoire, the Margam, is related to the life of the dance students in Vienna and adapted in the interpretation. Their everyday life, the encounter with Bharatanāṭyam, the education, joys and sorrows associated with it are shown. In this way, the margam forms the structure for the performance, but at the same time it also undergoes another, contemporary interpretation. Which movement patterns meet and complement each other depends both on the context and on the individuality of the dancers. What happened here in the field of classical Indian dance? Why are we dancing Bharatanāṭyam here? What is the fascination? What is dance doing to us? What answers can we find? The field of tension between the original tradition and the modern, between exoticism and avant-garde, between the foreign and the familiar is to be explored and reflected upon. What demands are placed on us, what moves us and what does our dancing body go through? What are we feeling? What obstacles and successes can we record? What is our responsibility? All of these questions are explored in this dance project.
